The Things I See

I wonder about town a lot and see all sorts of things.  A lot of these things I see and know there is danger to be seen everywhere, but certain things stand out distinctly.

The Oddball Knifer

Recently I was walking down the street and saw a ruffled fella, probably homeless, walking along fiddling with a pocket knife he had.  This isn’t something normal that one does, walk around and fiddle like this.  Seeing his physical appearance and such I questioned his sanity, and wondered if he wouldn’t fall into the realm of a random stabber.

I immediately distanced myself about 12-14 feet.  But he just walked amongst others who paid little to no attention to this man.  He then caused concern to me as he brushed up a young lady, probably in her early 20s who paid no attention.  As he brushed against her, probably not entirely aware of it himself, he made a stabbing motion forward.  She still, obliviously walked along just stepping away slightly.  She had not noticed that this had a knife, or could have stabbed her.

I followed him a little way and looked around for an officer.  As the saying goes, there wasn’t one around when I needed one.  I kept pacing along behind this guy, watching him carefully.  Eventually he put the knife away and walked off with a jittery hand.  Having seen no officer, I deemed that I’d just let this go.  I can’t save the world, but I felt compelled to keep an eye on this situation since so many are oblivious to these immediate dangers.

Why do I see these things?  Probably my childhood, a bit of New Orleans life and an overt desire to be aware of my surroundings?  I’d bet on all of these things.

I am truly amazed humanity manages as well as it does, but there is some inherent order to things.  Days like this though I’m just shocked by these little intricate details that massive numbers of people never notice.  Fortunately, as statistics prove, people are generally good souls.  Even the downtrodden and poor beaten souls.

Late Night

I lay wanting sleep. However an easy dozen ideas, as is often the case, run through my mind. The thoughts are exacerbated when one idea is ignited to a brighter level by actual progress. The idea beginning forward movement to being realized causes the others to become more viral…

…Sleep badgers the mind, for now I bid adieu.
